SAMN OU, i.e. "with you" in Creole, is a choreographic exploration around the form of the duo.
Here Jody Etienne questions the body in its relationship to sensations and in its own inner movements. The interpreters invite us to witness the weaving of an instinctive union where each relies on the other to define himself. Together they create a playground in which movements are born as a language of understanding. Without an initial narrative framework, this piece, largely accompanied by minimalist and abyssal music, plunges us into a moving, mixed and open space of the possible relationship to the other.
The choreographer links his rhythmic gestures, notably from his experience in urban dance, to the languages of contemporary dance and the Reunionese tradition.
Samn Ou was created with the assistance of Young Companies Choreographic Competition Les Synodales Award 2012.
