NOU LE KE PASSAGERS
It is in a context of crisis, identity questioning but also revolution that this solo saw the light of day. In a normalized environment, sometimes oppressive, always under tension, Jody Etienne imagines the path of a man animated at the same time by docility and rebellion.
For this solo, intimate and resolutely open, Jody Etienne works around crossbreeding. Originally from Reunion Island, a Creole land, he has lived in the midst of different cultures; his work is the fruit of this mix. In his choreographic language linked to contemporary dance, Jody Etienne integrates a traditional Reunionese dance: maloya. Historical dance of slaves, it is itself imbued with resistance and freedom.
« An evocation of uprooting, interpreted solo and drawn from an explosive, violent and stateless intimacy. » Julien Bachellerie - La Montagne - june 2011.
