Jody Etienne began to dance at the age of 17 in the town of Saint-Denis on Reunion Island. In 2003, he decided to train in dance and left his native land. In Montpellier, under the Anne-Marie Porras’ supervision, he trained as an interpreter and teacher. From then on, his career has been built between interpretation, teaching and choreography.
His work as an interpreter allows him to multiply his approaches to the body. His artistic experiences with choreographers, directors and musicians were then decisive in his life as a dancer and enhance his need to express himself fully through the body.
In 2006, Jody Etienne started as an extra dancer at the Montpellier National Opera with Callirhoé and Cyrano de Bergerac. He also performed for Claude Brumachon and Benjamin Lamarche at the Centre Chorégraphique National de Nantes with two pieces: Festin and Phobos from 2006 to 2008. In Aurillac, he collaborates on the play Quand j'étais humain by Vendetta Mathea & Co. At the same time, and for three years, he performed with the Batik Soundpainting Orchestra under Eric Chapelle. In 2012, he joined the Ballet Jazz Art under Raza Hammadi’s artistic supervision for the piece Danse Jazz Mix in collaboration with the choreographers Nicolas Cantillon and Laurence Yadi. In 2013, he joined the musician Antoine Bataille for the Rhapsodies Bâtardes project. In 2014, Simon Le Doaré, director of Hiatus in Brest, called him for the play Stock Options. That same year, he also perform the role of the prince in Blanche Neige, an adaptation by Gilles Roland-Manuel directed by Olivier Couder and choreographed by Kaori Ito. In 2018, he perform for Kubilaï Khan Investigations under the artistic direction of Frank Micheletti at the Vive la danse event in Brest. In 2019, he was a soloist in Ove, a show for young audiences by Gaël Sesboüé.
All these encounters nourish the choreographer and allow him to develop a varied and mixed artistic and technical universe. Jody Etienne proposes an open, energetic and instantly drawn gesture. Since 2009, he choreographed his first pieces. FLER MALER, NOU LE KE PASSAGERS, SAMN OU and NOSTALGIA are his first creations signed within the compagnie IN NINSTAN.
